Cookies Policy

Last updated 3 November 2026

We do not set cookies on your device: no sign-in cookies, no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies. The app does keep some information in your browser's storage so that it can remember your choices and work without a signal. This page lists what, and how to clear it.

What is kept on your device

Settings
Language, units, colours, voice and the other choices in Settings. Kept until you change or clear them.
Map choices
Which layers are on, the map style, whether the 3D map is on, the area and filters you chose, the types of crime shown, and how chargers and fuel stations are sorted.
Places and trips
Home and Work, saved places, recent searches, saved routes, your vehicle's details, trip options, and the last trip so you can pick it up again.
Driver-report identifier
The random identifier your browser made so that reports and votes from one device are counted once. It is not linked to your name or account.
Saved map areas
The list of map areas you saved for use offline.
Offline copy of the app
A service worker keeps the app's own files, the map pictures you have looked at (the newest 3,000), your saved areas, the map along a trip you follow (until the trip ends), the layers that cover the whole country (such as cameras, chargers, fuel prices, collision hotspots and road closures) and a few answers (a trip asked before, and the data files used to check speed cameras, lorry limits and zones), so the app can open and plan a trip with no signal. Live information is never kept: an old position is worse than none.
Reload note
One note in the tab's session storage that stops the page reloading in a loop after a crash. It goes when the tab closes.

This lives in your browser's local storage (the names start with uk-live-traffic:), session storage and cache storage. None of it is a cookie, and our server reads none of it unless you ask for something that needs it (the Privacy Policy says what).

Why there is no banner

This storage is used only to give you the service you asked for and to keep the choices you made. It is not used to track you or to show adverts, so we treat it as needed to provide the service and do not ask for consent with a banner.

Other organisations

Things your device loads directly from other organisations (map pictures from OpenFreeMap, satellite pictures from Esri, the 3D map's heights from Amazon Web Services, traffic camera pictures, postcode look-ups) may come with cookies or storage of their own. The Privacy Policy lists them; their own policies apply.

How to clear it

Clear data on this device, at the bottom of Settings, removes your settings, places, trips and the report identifier. Saved map areas are kept: delete each from the offline maps list in Settings. You can also clear this site's data in your browser's settings, or uninstall the Android app.

If you block storage the app still works, but it forgets your choices when you close it.
