Terms & Conditions
Last updated 3 November 2026
These terms cover your use of the UK Live Traffic website and Android app (the service), run by Pakman Project. By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
You stay responsible for your journey
- The service is a guide, not a safety device. Maps, directions, voice guidance, speed camera alerts and live information can be wrong, late or missing.
- Obey road signs, the law and the conditions in front of you, whatever the service says. Do not use a phone while driving where the law forbids it: set up a trip before you set off, or ask a passenger to.
- Routes can miss road closures, low bridges, weight limits and other restrictions that apply to your vehicle. Check the signs.
Where the information comes from
Live positions and times come from other organisations (see About & licenses) and are shown as they are received. Train positions are worked out from the timetable and the latest reported times, not from GPS. Speed cameras, low bridges, weight limits and charge points come from OpenStreetMap and other open data, and are incomplete. Fuel prices are reported by the forecourts. We do not guarantee any of it.
The crime map and crime-avoiding routes
The crime map shows how many crimes the police recorded in each area over the last 12 months. It is for reference only. It is not a measure of how safe a place is or of what will happen to you there, and the figures can be wrong or out of date. In some areas the latest figures are not out and older ones are shown, marked on the map.
A route that keeps out of areas of recorded crime says nothing about what will happen to you on it, and avoiding an area does not make a trip safe.
A walk or ride that prefers well-lit streets is chosen from satellite pictures of night light, what mappers have recorded about lit streets and unpaved paths, and, where there is one, a council's list of its street lights (Leeds, Lancashire, Sheffield, Edinburgh and a few others). None of them can say whether a light is working tonight, and a lit street is not a safe one.
Driver reports and shared trips
- Reports are made by people using the service. We do not check them.
- Send a report only when it is safe to: not while you are driving. Report only what you have seen, and do not send false, abusive or misleading reports.
- We may remove any report and block anyone who misuses the feature.
- Share only your own trip, with people you trust. Anyone with the link can see it until it ends. You can stop sharing at any time.
UK Live Traffic Plus
UK Live Traffic Plus is an optional subscription, sold only in the Android app, through Google Play. It includes:
- the radon, mining hazard and council boundary maps.
The Android Auto car screen, guidance that keeps going with the screen off or the phone locked, and everything else in the app and on the website stay free.
- Google Play bills it, monthly or yearly, at the price Google Play shows you before you buy.
- It renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; Plus stays on until the end of the period you have paid for.
- New subscribers get a 7-day free trial (Google Play decides who counts as new). Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing; otherwise the first payment is taken when it ends.
- Refunds are handled under Google Play's refund rules.
- Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Fair use
Do not overload or interfere with the service, try to get round its limits (such as the hourly limits on reports and shared trips), or use the data behind the map as a feed for another product. The services we rely on set limits of their own.
The code is open
The source code is open under the MIT licence (see About & licenses). These terms are about the live service we run, not your use of the code. The data from other organisations keeps its own licence.
No warranty
The website is free, apart from three map layers that need UK Live Traffic Plus in the Android app. The service is provided as it is and as it is available, with no promise that it is accurate, complete, uninterrupted or right for a particular purpose. We may change, limit or stop any part of it at any time.
Our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, Pakman Project is not responsible for any loss, damage, fine, delay or injury that comes from using the service or relying on what it shows. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your legal rights as a consumer.
Other sites
The service links to other sites and loads content from other providers. We do not control them and are not responsible for them.
Changes and the law
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and using the service after a change means you accept it.
They are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts can hear any dispute; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring a claim in the courts there.
